Cold stitching: permanent repair without welding

The Metalock process, known as metal stitching, is a fast and permanent repair method for cracks or for joining metal parts without welding. It is based on engineering principles accepted for more than 70 years.

On cast iron and crack-prone metals, cold repair outperforms welding. It needs only portable equipment, is completed in hours or days and restores the equipment’s strength to the manufacturer’s specifications.

  1. Step 01

    Drilling with a jig

    Using a drilling jig, blind holes are drilled perpendicular to the crack. Each row acts as a key.

    Removing the webs

    The webs between the holes are removed with a pneumatic chisel.

  3. Step 03

    Inserting Metalock® keys

    The resulting openings are filled with METALOCK® keys, which join both sides of the crack.

    Drilling between keys

    Holes for METALOCK® studs are drilled along the crack, between the keys.

    Fitting the studs

    METALOCK® studs are fitted, sealing the full length of the fracture.

    Final sealing

    The repair is dressed and sealed to ensure stability, pressure tightness and leak-proofing.
